About 

The International Erwin Schulhoff  Composition Competition is an exclusive online competition based in Vienna, Austria and its open to composers of all ages and nationalities.
The competition is founded and directed by violinist Sebastian Leczky & cellist Marcel Leczky of the Kodály String Duo, in partnership with scodo and the Universal Edition. Named in honor of the distinguished Bohemian composer Erwin Schulhoff, this event celebrates his contributions to 20th-century music and seeks to inspire creativity in contemporary composition.

The 2024-2025 edition is dedicated to String Chamber Music, inviting submissions for Duo (Violin, Cello), Trio (Violin, Viola, Cello), Quartet (2 Violins, Viola, Cello), Quintet (2 Violins, Viola, Cello, Doublebass/ 2nd Cello), Sextet (2 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Celli), or Octet (4 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Celli). Composers are encouraged to explore the expressive possibilities of string chamber ensembles.

Prizes and Recognition
Each participant will receive a Certificate and a €49 voucher for a free submission to scodo, the digital publishing platform of the prestigious Universal Edition. The Winner will be awarded a €300 Professional Subscription for one year to scodo, providing access to comprehensive tools for publishing and promoting their work.

An Honorary Recognition will be given to the composer whose piece receives the second-highest score. All prize-winners will gain widespread publicity, with their works promoted through a vast network of media and industry channels, offering invaluable international exposure.

The Kodály String Duo Special Prize is presented by the Kodály String Duo for the most outstanding composition in the string duo category of the competition. As part of this distinguished prize, the Kodály String Duo will perform the prize-winning composition at one of their concerts, either as part of a recital or during their tours, providing the piece with valuable international exposure.

All Prizes are generously provided by scodo. 
Note that Universal Edition reserves the right to evaluate each composition after the submission to scodo. This evaluation will happen after and outside of the competition!
