About

The International Erwin Schulhoff Composition Competition is a competiton that aims to discover and promote talented composers from all over the world. Named after the renowned Bohemian composer, Erwin Schulhoff, the competition celebrates his legacy and his contribution to the world of classical music. The competition is open to composers of any age and all nationalities, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and compete with their peers on a global level.

Awards:

Everybody wins: 

EACH COMPETITOR will receive a 49€ voucher for a free submission to the scodo publishing tool by the prestigious Universal Edition alongside their Certificate of Participation!

Winner: 

The Winner of the International Erwin Schulhoff Composition Competiton will receive a 300€ Professional Subscription for the scodo publishing tool for 1 year.

Honorary Recognition:

The Honorary Recognition Award will be presented to the competitor whose composition achieved the second-highest score in the competition. 

Kodály String Duo Special Prize:

The Kodály String Duo Special Prize is presented by the Kodály String Duo for the most outstanding composition in the string duo category of the competition. As part of this distinguished prize, the Kodály String Duo will perform the prize-winning composition at one of their concerts, either as part of a recital or during their tours, providing the piece with valuable international exposure.

Kodály String Duo Special Prize winning composition in performance

Reminiscences II, Suite in the Old Style, composed by Veljko Nenadić was awarded the Kodály String Duo Special Prize at the I. International Erwin Schulhoff Composition Competition in 2024. As a part of this distinguished prize, the work will be featured by the internationally acclaimed Kodály String Duo at the Budapest Music Center in the spring of 2026.

The Budapest Music Center is widely regarded as one of Europe's foremost venues for contemporary music. Having the piece performed by the duo in such setting is a unique opportunity to bring the work to an international audience. 

The Kodály String Duo established this Special Prize as a part of the competition and continue to offer it in the current edition, further strengthening their support for contemporary music.
